RulesWe Brainstorm rights and responsibilities of the classroom and these are the general rules/norms that come up year after year:
1. Be Respectful 2. Be Safe 3. Do your best / Work hard 4. Care! This embodies the philosophy that we have a right to a peaceful, respectful and safe classroom. It is a place of learning where there should be kindness and caring. |

Missed School? Now that your child is a bit older, I am trying to teach them that catching up on missed work is their responsibility. They are to write spelling words in their agenda without me having to remind them to do it if they missed spelling words day. ( Usually Monday mornings) Also, missed ELA and math worksheets that are handed out on their desk are also expected to be completed. The student should be asking me or a classmate about any other items on their desk when they return to school. (ie: which pages of a booklet need to be completed, what notes or assignments were missed, etc) There is almost always a math assignment to catch up on. Students should always go into Google Classroom to find out the assignments they missed.
If your child is absent, assignments will be posted on Google Classroom. Your child can access their school Google account from any computer. If your child is not feeling too sick they can work on some assignments from home. Some can be done online, and some assignments can be done on looseleaf etc. and handed in when your child returns to school. Some assignments (like notes, catch up on class discussions etc) will need to be caught up on when your child returns to school. |
We have a no excuse list for classroom procedures. Instead of me reminding students over and over about the simple procedures that are easily doable by everyone, students can check the list and think for themselves what they need to do. Examples of the no excuse work list: put your name on every assignment that you hand in, sentences begin with a capital and finish with end punctuation, etc.
Recently, I have started giving a few homework questions if students forget something on the no excuse list (Like sentences begin with a capital and finish with end punctuation!) |
